The Project
Momoland is an event series curated by visual artist and musician Momo Pixel. She tasked me with creating a virtual reality extension for the fourth event, drawing inspiration from her body of pixel art. Using Google Tiltbrush and Gravity Sketch, I crafted a crystallized neon-filled metropolis for this first iteration — a world that felt native to her aesthetic before a single headset was put on.

Building the World
By default I begin conceptualization of a VR world in VR. I start with 3D sketches in Google Tiltbrush — rough outlines of layout and scale. From there I bring those sketches into Unity to feel the space from the inside. Experiencing your layout in VR as early as possible is non-negotiable. Layout comes first, then specific asset creation — buildings, ships, skyboxes. Finally, materials and shaders.

Since day one of my VR journey I’ve had a commitment to supporting underrepresented creators in technology. As we continue this collaboration, I hope to become a resource to any unheard voices looking to use VR in their work. Experiences like Momoland are an invitation — closer in to the industry.
